Hanna FlaggHanna calls herself an experimental potter, having fun exploring some of the techniques with clay that have intrigued people all over the world for thousands of years. Different methods of firing excite her, from primitive firing in a pit or a “kiln” of her own making, to sophisticated, digitally controlled, electric firing to work-intensive, collaborate, 40 plus hour, high-heat wood firings. Born and raised in Switzerland Hanna has lived and worked in Jerome for almost 30 years. Mostly self-taught, except for classes at Yavapai College and various workshops, she has been playing in clay for about 10 years. The landscape and Native American culture influences her work as in the experimentations with local clays - "I like to bring back mud from hikes and river trips and see what it does!" Hanna's work is mostly wheel thrown, one of a kind, whatever strikes her fancy that day. |
