John
Delventhal - Copper Panels
John graduated from
the University of Missouri in 1953 obtaining a degree in Biological
Science. Classes in Art Appreciation and the History of Modern Art
helped to cultivate his love and understanding of art. His firm belief
in always collecting original art, never prints, also resulted from
those early educational experiences.
John started out with a salvaged sheet of copper laminate
and his past knowledge of chemistry. In the beginning not all John’s
pieces met his standards as he learned to work with the copper and chemicals. “Sometimes
the results were interesting, sometimes disappointing.”
But, he persevered and John’s pioneering spirit and
just plain love for what he is doing is brought some amazing results. “Remembering
the song, accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative I tried to repeat
the successful ones and discard the others.” Through
experimentation he has been successful in producing a variety of colors and
patterns to include impressions of leaves, stems, circles and squares. His
creations vary in size from as small as 8 inch by 10 inch up to 36 inch x 48
inch. Many of his panels are a long slender format. John’s panels make
elegant art pieces of their very own or beautiful accent pieces.
