Kat Strickland - Story Bowls
Katharine Strickland graduated
from Colorado State University in 1984 with a Bachelor's in Humanities
and Art Education. She has been teaching ceramics and doing sculptural
pottery and photography for several years. She is an Arizona resident.
She describes how she came about making her delightful
charm bowls and the miniature houses.
"I was throwing on the wheel and there was an air bubble in the rim
of my vessel, so I used my needle tool to puncture the air bubble, and
decided it would be fun to have several holes to dangle beads from. Then the
idea came about to add a charm to each set of beads and now I can customize each
bowl according to a specific theme or a person's hobbies and interests. I also
have written short stories that coordinate with the charms, so they are great
for children. (The Christmas Story, The Bludid From Wiramoor, and The Fox and
The Bear.)
As a child I was always interested in playing
with Trolls, and making habitats for them with my doll house furniture,
so "The
Castle and Dragon"and "The Ceremony Hut" satisfied the
child within. Other pieces in this series are: "The Tree House for
The Almighty Tree House Bead God", "The Potter's Shed", "San
Acacio"
and "The Mushroom House". Kat has a passion for art and
teaching. She believes in utilizing art as a healing tool, and that creating
something from your own two hands is essential to feeding the soul.
